This serves as a forum for discussing the ways in which the British Empire and the environment were inextricably linked. Imperialism was, after all, more than just colonizing distant lands and peoples. Imperialism also encompassed exploration and discovery.

Themes of interest in this category include the role of women, both European and native, in the workings of empire, the gathering of affective knowledge by the British as a means of controlling native populations, and the role of masculinity as a cornerstone to effective empire-building.

This forum is used for discussing the theory of Orientalism as posited most prominently by the late Edward Said.

This category deals with theoretical approaches to empire including the works by Robinson & Gallagher and Cain & Hopkins.

Globalization is an overarching term that serves to link all of mankind. Moreover, globalization is important because it not only exists in the present and recent past, it is a phenomenon that can be traced into the distant past. No one denies that globalization exists. The real question revolves around whether globalization is beneficial or harmful. Adding historical examples to the mix provides arguments both ways. This forum allows you to share your voice on this controversial subject.
